Cornwall Tire pledges $25,000 in support of Hospital Foundation equipment appeal

It’s a little ironic that Luc Quesnel is in the tire business because the man is clearly tire-less when it comes to community involvement.

“You have to look after the ‘good living’ of Cornwall people…you have to get involved,” says Luc, who is involved in everything from minor hockey and soccer, to curling and the annual hot air balloon festival.

And it’s that spirit of giving, expressed by a man who says “family values, handed down” played a big role in motivating him, brother Pierre and father Jean Marc – who started Cornwall Tire in 1970 – to give so generously to the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation.

Yet, Luc doesn’t really want to talk about the $25,000. his company recently donated: “I want to talk about my feelings,” he says. “You can’t wait for the government [to provide funding]. “It takes every person, every citizen to move mountains.”

And what he means is to renew, revitalize, re-equip and rebuild the CCH.

Interestingly, Luc confides he’s never had a personal experience with illness that required hospitalization. “I’ve been lucky,” he says.

But he’s quick to point out that Cornwall Tire employs 26 people, and adds that if ever any one of them needs hospitalization, he wants them to be treated well.

“We’re like a family,” says Luc, “and you never know what will happen tomorrow.”

Of course, no one has a crystal ball when it comes to the future. But Luc believes in leading by example, and states with certainty that a well-equipped hospital will help attract the doctors needed to treat Cornwall’s aging population.

When Luc speaks about his business – especially in the hectic aftermath of Cornwall’s record-breaking December snowstorm – one can’t help but imagine a similarity between Cornwall Tire and the always-busy Cornwall Community hospital.

So what does Luc say it takes to deal with the pressures? “Stay calm, fix the problems, and always work five years ahead”

Sounds like great advice for leaders in tires, and leaders in healthcare.
